Spammers are even stupider than I imagined!

So far today I have deleted 4 instances of comment spam. These people are actually getting past the captcha code and entering things in, so I presume they are human. I delete them as soon as I can of course but what is retarded (for these people ARE retarded, evil and they smell pretty bad, not to mention ugly) they are putting in a URL that doesnt exist. So right, Miss/Mr Spammer, you are putting in the URL of your site, but it doesnt exist. Bogg off please, its just a waste of your time. Surely???

Hey MArk. Ya I feel your pain. At the same time I've been finding blog spammers somewhat fascinating. :)

Like I had a wide open ability to post on my blog..and one blogger discovered, and I'd deactivate them (takes me literally 2 seconds to nuke 100 spams...it's no big deal). But the guy kept it up. I was putting in logic to catch for the certain things he was trying to post for...that slowed him down for about 15mins and then he'd figured out the workaround.

So I figure these guys get paid per post or something..? But what I found effective is not to show the comment right away - I implemented a comment review mechanism. So even though I'm not using the captcha thingy, it seems to have worked. Blog spammers apparently want instant gratification. And if none of their posts will ever get approved, they know its not worth their while.

Thats true, but then again, I would hate to make it harder for people to post on my blog. I dont particularly like the captcha anyway, yet alone then waiting for post moderation. At least they arent being rude yet.

We have started to get the same sort of thing. They even sound like a slightly on-topic comment till you look at the URL, http/bla bla blah/sitemap.html

Like who has a homepage called sitemap.html?
